Our walk and talk sessions are held three times a year to highlight the importance of good mental health! We all know that being physically active is good for our bodies. But our physical health and mental health are closely linked – so physical activity can be very beneficial for our mental health and wellbeing too. These sessions are a great way of getting out into the great outdoors and gently exercising, with others! Walking is classed as gentle/moderate exercise and manageable for all ages.
FAQs:
-
I suffer from depression anxiety. Can walking improve my symptoms or does it just help maintain good mental health?
Walking is excellent for both depression and anxiety. When we exercise we produce endorphins (also known as happy hormones), this hormone is released into your bloodstream and improves your sense of well being. With regards to anxiety, by exercising your body uses up the adrenaline (stress hormones) circulating in your bloodstream and helps switch off the 'fight and flight' response which occurs with anxiety. -
